Member Of The Month (May)

The month of May has been and gone and we are now into June. I really can't believe how quickly this year is going!

In saying that, a lot of things have happened and will continue happening here at Fulla Strength and Conditioning.

Before I get too far into the future, I want to acknowledge the efforts of someone who really impressed me during the month of May.

I've taken some time to reflect and review the last 4 weeks of training and have noticed the ongoing efforts of one young man.

The winner of the award for May is someone who I've known for around 5 years.

Introducing our newest Member Of The Month -- Tom Pascoe

Fulla Strength and Conditioning

Tom is a young man who has a lot going on at the moment. Working, studying at Uni, refereeing rugby and in a relationship - that's living, Barry!

It's always a fun time when Tom comes in for his sessions. Especially Monday's.

That's when he completes his shuttle runs . Tom looooves his shuttle runs.

These are completed as a 'necessary evil' to help him achieve a goal of his, which is improving his beep test score.

The Beep Test: The 20m multistage fitness test (MSFT) is a commonly used maximal running aerobic fitness test. It is also known as the 20 meter shuttle run test, beep or bleep test among other names.

The test is audio-based and the aim is to complete a 20m distance before the 'beep'.

As the levels increase, so does the difficulty. The higher the level, the quicker the beep.

If you are unfamiliar with it, the image below captures it perfectly.

The beep test isn't glamorous, or fun, but it is a great test of mental and physical willpower.

It's not for everyone, but it does currently fit into the scope of Tom's training program.

Enough about the beep test.

Let's get back to celebrating his award.

I conducted a short interview with Tom recently, where he goes into detail about his experience working with us. You can view that below;

Q1- WHEN DID YOU FIRST START TRAINING WITH FULLA SC (MONTH/YEAR)?

A- Mid 2017

Q2- WHAT KEEPS BRINGING YOU BACK?

A- I enjoy the training style and being pushed beyond the limits I had found previously. The individual training style is good and is a welcome change from other methods where it seems to be  "one-size-fits-all”.

Q3- WHAT RESULTS HAVE YOU ACHIEVED SO FAR?

A- Increased beep test score from 8.9 to 10.8 and a personal best of 15 unbroken push ups during police testing, which was well outside of achievable for me some time ago.

Q4- WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 3 MONTHS (IN TERMS OF RESULTS)?

A- I'd like to continue working on the beep test score and hopefully see results bleed over into other testing, such as the yo-yo test. Would like to run 10.8+ on the beep test, have confidence in sit-ups and abdominal strength and be able to do 15+ push ups.

Q5- WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THE SERVICES PROVIDED AT FULLA SC?

A- The individual training sessions and the ability to have someone there who is going to interact with me rather than simply train and be done with the session.

There are several reasons why I selected Tom as the winner of this month's award, but the big thing which sticks out in my mind is that he is always prepared to work hard.

Not everyone possesses that trait, but it is one which is very valuable and can really become a huge asset in achieving meaningful results.

Each week, Tom is prepared to give things a go, get a little bit uncomfortable and embrace "the suck factor".

Fulla Strength and Conditioning

Well done, Tom. You've been working hard for a considerable amount of time and you truly deserve the award!

Until next time,

Keep training consistently.

Jesse
